Barrier Drawings

Barrier Drawings

We develop highly visual drawings using your existing CAD floor plans.

“Fire protection in Hospitals is provided in part by the elements of the building’s construction. Barrier Drawings show Barriers to prevent the spread of smoke and fire include walls, doors and dampers. Hospital construction requirements specify the materials and configurations to contain fire and smoke within rooms and compartments to allow time for the fire to be extinguished and to protect the path of egress from the area or from the building. Clinical engineering handbook” – Joseph F. Dyro

The Joint Commission, as part of the Life Safety Assesment (LSA), Part 2, Basic Building Information (BBI), question #12, requires:“Attach a rough sketch, representative drawing(s), or floor plans for each story occupied by the organization. Identify or illustrate (provide a legend) each of the following features that exist: exterior exit doors, exit stairs/ramps (exterior or interior), smokeproof enclosures, horizontal exits, exit passageways, fire barriers, fire compartments, smoke barriers and linen/trash chutes.”TSIG Consulting, a Division of the Greeley Company. (TSIG) can develop highly visual drawings using your existing CAD architectural floor plans to meet the intent of question #12 on the BBI form.

Once accurate plans are available, they become a foundation for layering other information related to means of egress, life safety, mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC and other building elements, for example:

  • Suites
  • Compartments
  • Travel distances
  • Areas of Refuge
  • Capacity of Means of Egress
  • Arrangement of Means of Egress
  • Fire / smoke rated walls
  • Elevator / evacuation route signs locations
  • Fire alarm pull boxes
  • Fire doors
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Fire hose racks
  • Smoke/thermal detectors
  • Sprinkler shut-off valves
  • Water flow detectors
  • Air handlers / exhaust and return fans
  • Thermostats
  • Motor control center
  • Shut-off and control valves for chilled water, secondary water and reheated water
